Security Department Programs:
Escort Program
The escort program provides a uniformed security guard to accompany students and employees between buildings, to vehicles, or other locations on campus. Individuals walking alone, particularly at night, are at a much higher risk than those walking with two or more people. If you must travel alone the campus escort service is a safe, reliable way to travel throughout the campus during hours of darkness.
Whistle Alert Program
Female students, faculty and staff are permanently issued emergency whistles to use for fast, effective alert in an emergency situation. The whistles are to be used to alert others that they need assistance or to attract attention. In the event of a threatening situation, an individual can use the whistle to alert others in the area to an emergency so they may respond. Specific instructions for use of emergency whistles are provided when whistles are issued.
Vehicle Registration
Vehicle information is collected to help identify individuals who may be on campus and do not belong. In the event of an incident involving a vehicle, registration allows Campus Security to aid Law Enforcement with the investigation.
Emergency Text Alert Program
Calvary Bible College is equipped to quickly mass communicate text messages to all personnel in the event of an emergency. This system allows Campus Security to effectively relay emergency information, procedures and orders to individuals that voluntarily participate in the program. Rapid communication is a critical element for safety during an emergency.
School Shooting - What Should I Do?
Shooter Outside Your Building:
- Turn off all the lights. Close, lock and block all windows and close window blinds. Lock and barricade the doors.
- Turn off radios and computer monitors
- Keep occupants calm and out of sight.
- Keep yourself out of sight and take adequate cover/protection i.e., concrete walls, thick desks, filing cabinets (cover may protect you from bullets)
- Silence cell phones
- Unknown or unfamiliar voices may be misleading and designed to give false assurances.
Shooter Inside Your Building:
- If it is possible to flee the area safely and avoid danger, do so.
- If flight is impossible, lock all doors and secure yourself in your space using the procedures above..
Shooter Inside Your Classroom or Office:
- There is no one procedure the authorities can recommend in this situation.
- Attempt to get the word out to other staff if possible, and call emergency services at 911 and 3333 from a campus pone or 898-2989 from any other phone with your location if possible.
- Use common sense. If hiding or fleeing is impossible attempt to negotiate with the individual.
- If the situation is extreme (active shooting), attempt to overcome the armed subject with force. Throw things (chairs, books, other items) at the subject while rushing him or her. Get the shooter on the floor, restrain him and get weapons away from him.
- Remember, there may be more than one active armed subject.
- Wait for the "all clear" instruction.
- Be careful not to make any changes to the scene of the incident since law enforcement authorities will investigate the area later.
- In case you must flee, get as far away from the shooting scene as possible and then contact authorities.
Un-Securing an Area:
- Consider risks before un-securing rooms.
- Remember, the shooter will not stop until they are engaged by an outside force.
- Attempts to rescue people should only be attempted if it can be accomplished without further endangering the persons inside a secured area.
- If doubt exists for the safety of the individuals inside the room, the area should remain secured.
- Follow all Police instructions to ensure your own safety.
Contacting Authorities:
- Program emergency numbers into your phone.
