Course Divisions

Biblical Education (33 hrs req)

The Division of Biblical Education is the heart of the College. This division provides instruction in the Word of God, the tools necessary for personal study of the Word of God, the biblical philosophy which provides a solid foundation for life, and the scriptural inspiration to put into practice the admonitions of the Word of God.

Bible is the distinctive of the Bible college. Thus, all Calvary baccalaureate degrees include a major in Bible and theology plus the selection of a professional major.

Objectives

  • That the student possess a store of basic biblical and theological facts as a foundation for meditation, teaching, and further study.
  • That the student accurately analyze, interpret, and apply biblical passages for himself in a continuing commitment to personal Bible study.
  • That the student submit to Scripture as the ultimate authority for both his beliefs and his behavior.
  • That the student demonstrate development in his Christian character through the consistent outworking of biblical truth in his lifestyle.

This division is founded on a thoroughly biblical worldview. General education develops the student's understanding of revelation and creation, and enables him to think clearly, to relate ethically to our global society, and to articulate a Christian worldview.

Objectives

  • That the student grow in his development of a Christian theistic worldview by relating his studies in general education to a biblical philosophy.
  • That the student develop critical thinking skills by using biblical criteria to evaluate the subject matter in general education courses.
  • That the student grow in his appreciation of the musical arts through the development of his understanding and through personal expression.
  • That the student develop an understanding and appreciation of the past by examining its literature, cultures, and history.

Professional Education

The Division of Professional Education provides the student with the means and methods of effective ministry. Whereas the Division of Biblical Education provides the basic message to proclaim and the tools with which to search out that message from the Word of God, the Division of General Education enables students to think clearly, to relate ethically to our global society, and to articulate a Christian worldview. It is the Division of Professional Education which helps the student develop his gifts and abilities to effectively minister to others.

Calvary Bible College trains those who will serve the Lord Jesus Christ in various capacities in His Church and in the world. The Church of Jesus Christ is built up and edified by those who exercise the spiritual gifts or abilities God has given them (Eph. 4:11?16). These gifts, which the Spirit of God uses to encourage and edify others, include ministry, teaching, evangelism, pastor teacher, administration, helps, and many others (Rom. 12:6?8; 1 Cor. 12:28?29; Eph. 4:11; 1 Peter 4:10).

Objectives

  • That the student reflect in life the Christian character and qualifications for a ministry that exalts Christ and glorifies God.
  • That the student develop specialized skills and abilities needed for competent ministry in Christian professions.
  • That the student be ready to assume ministry-related responsibilities in a professional manner.
  • That the student be committed to excellence in Christian ministry.
  • That the student be prepared to enter graduate school.

Baccalaureate Degree Requirements

Each professional major has required courses and may also have elective hours. The elective hours are provided so that the student, in consultation with his advisor, may plan a program which will allow him to choose courses (either from his own major or from another) which will uniquely prepare him for Christian service. The specific course requirements for each major are listed in the Program Requirements section of this catalog.

A combination major may be created by combining two minors. The course requirements for the two minors make up the requirements for the major.
