Evening Students
Non-traditional programs are geared to the individual who is busy with work and other activities during the day, but would still like to complete their degree. Non-traditional programs are centered around 3-credit hour classes known as intensives. Intensives are classes that meet one evening per week for 6 weeks from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Students enrolled in EXCEL Baccalaureate or Bridge Associates degree programs may transfer previous course work from other schools. Students may earn an associates or bachelors degree by attending class as little as one evening per week.
To help the non-traditional student balance class, employment, family, and ministry commitments, Calvary offers flexible learning options. In addition to 6-week intensive classes, students may also enroll in 16-week external correspondence classes and 8-week or 12-week online classes. The motivated student has the option of enrolling in traditional 16-week day classes.
Program Offering
GENERAL INFORMATION
The non-traditional studies programs are made up, for the most part, of
courses similar or equivalent to the courses offered in the traditional programs.
There are many additional courses available in a non-traditional format.
Assignments
Students are responsible for fulfillment, on time, of all assignments made by
professors. Grades will be reduced for late work. Assignments are to be
completed according to accepted standards for research, investigation, and
reporting, including spelling, organization, style, grammar, neatness, and
originality.
Delivery Systems
The main difference between the non-traditional and the traditional courses
is the method of delivery of the courses. Four delivery systems are available: intensive courses, online courses, external studies courses, and independent
study courses. +More
Intensive Courses
A student must be at least 21 years of age to enroll in an intensive. Intensive
courses are designed to fit the adult student’s lifestyle because they are offered in
the evening. Classes meet one night a week for five weeks. A variety of courses
are offered in the intensive format and may be used to complete traditional and
non-traditional degree programs.
Because the courses are offered in a special format, there are specific
attendance requirements for intensive classes. Attendance at all class sessions is
mandatory because a significant portion of learning and interaction takes place in
class. If a student must miss a class, he is responsible to make arrangements to
have the class audio-recorded by contacting the Non-Traditional Studies Office
by 4 p.m. on the day of class. This option is available only once per course. The
student is to listen to the CD recording and write a short review (2-3 pages), to
be turned in to his professor.
Any student missing two of the first three weeks of class will be withdrawn
and given a “W.” Students missing weeks four and five of any Intensive course
will be given a “WP” if passing the course or a “WF” if failing the course at the
time of withdrawal. Students missing two weeks of class in any other
combination are given either a “WP” or “WF” according to the amount of class
work required. Students missing one night of class without notifying the
instructor or the Non-Traditional Studies Office in advance will be counted as
unexcused. An unexcused absence lowers the final grade by one full letter
grade. After week two no refunds are allowed.
Tardy Policy: Students arriving after 6:15 p.m. are counted as tardy.
Students leaving class before the instructor has dismissed the class (unless an
emergency so dictates) will be counted as tardy. Two tardies count as an unexcused absence. An unexcused absence results in a full letter grade reduction
for the course.
Online Courses
Online courses may be taken to meet program requirements. Online courses
are offered in 8 and 12 week formats and are offered 8 times a year. More Information
External Studies Courses
An External Study course is similar to a correspondence course. A student
completes the course requirements from the comfort and convenience of his own
home. The student may fulfill program requirements by taking one of Calvary’s
external study courses if it is equivalent to the required course. These courses
may be used to complete requirements for all traditional and non-traditional
programs.
External study courses are available only to students who are degreeseeking
Calvary Bible College students. The student must have a GPA of 2.500
or above to enroll in an external study course.
Each external study course is sixteen weeks long. A student may begin an
External Study course with a start date of January 1, May 1, or September 1.
Start dates and due dates are set by the Non-Traditional Studies Office and
cannot be changed at any time. If a student receives a failing grade for an
external study course, he will not be allowed to enroll in another external course
without first repeating the failed course. The student must pay tuition and fees
for the repeated course.
Grades will be figured and posted on the due date for all courses. Each
month students will receive an update from the Non-Traditional Studies Office
as to their progress on the course and work that is outstanding. Students
withdrawing after week three will receive either a “WP” or “WF” according to
work submitted at the time of withdrawal.
