Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) Program

Become a Military Officer

ROTC is a program designed to prepare college students to become military officers (second lieutenants) upon graduation from college with a bachelor’s degree. Each Service offers this program at colleges and universities throughout the country. Officers may be commissioned in the Regular Army, the Reserves or the National Guard, depending upon their contract.

ROTC at Calvary Bible College

  • Calvary participates in the ROTC program as an affiliated institution with Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph , MO.
  • Calvary students enrolled in Military Science classes at Calvary will attend classes conducted at the University of Missouri at Kansas City (UMKC) or at Park University . Contract students (students with a scholarship or advanced course students) also participate in physical fitness training on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings and a weekly military lab.
  • Calvary students who desire to participate in the Army ROTC program may:
    • Apply for scholarships (four, three, two years) that pay for books, fees and tuition. In addition to payment of college expenses, each student receives a monthly stipend:
      • 1st year - $250 per month
      • 2nd year - $300 per month
      • 3rd year - $350 per month
      • 4th year - $400 per month
    • Advanced Course students (juniors and seniors) will also receive a monthly stipend at the 3 rd and 4 th year levels regardless of whether they are on scholarship.
    • Major in Military Science as part Calvary ’s Christian Ministry major program.
    • Participate in the Simultaneous Membership Program – which means students can be drilling members of a National Guard or US Army Reserve unit while studying as ROTC cadets and draw military pay for their duty.

Army ROTC students who receive an Army ROTC scholarship or enter the Army ROTC Advanced Course must agree to complete a period of service with the Army.

  • Serve full-time in the Army for three years (four years for scholarship winners)
  • Selected Cadets may choose to serve part-time in the U.S. Army Reserve or Army National Guard while pursuing a civilian career
