The primary function of the Financial Aid Office is to provide education in financial literacy and responsibility, information, and support for students to adequately prepare a means to pay for their schooling. To aid students financially, the Financial Aid Office utilizes many sources including, but not limited to:

  • Federal aid (grants, loans, military benefits, etc.)
  • Institutional aid (scholarships, tuition reduction opportunities, etc.)
  • External aid (external scholarships, alternative loans, alternative scholarship contributions, etc.)

http://www.finaid.org/otheraid/international.phtml: This site provides a free, comprehensive, independent, and objective guide to student financial aid. It was created by Mark Kantrowitz and is sponsored by the National Association of Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA).

http://www.nafsa.org/about.sec/organization_leadership/about_international_education: This website from NAFSA covers how to plan for studies in the U.S., what types of funding sources exist, and reference guides for international students.

http://www.collegeboard.org/: The International Education staff in Washington D.C. provides support for students, parents, counselors, admissions officers, and members interested in issues related to accessing U.S. higher education from other countries.

http://www.yahoo.com/education/financial_aid/: This site highlights other websites that advertise scholarship opportunities. Be careful to review whether international students are eligible for each program, as many will be restricted for U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

http://www.petersons.com/resources/finance.html: Although this website is generally geared to helping a U.S. citizen answer questions about financial aid, it includes useful information on "myths" related to financial assistance and a planning guide for admissions.

http://www.fastweb.com/: Read instructions carefully for the Scholarship Search engine. You may or may not have to pay for this service.
